    DESCRIPTION
    This is a old authentic Adinkra stamping block. ( Similar ones are used daily in Ghana for the stamping of Adinkra cloths ).
    The stamping blocks are carved from Calabash and wood with cloth is used make the stamp handle.
    The stamping block is used with a natural dye is made from the bark of the " badie " tree that is heated with iron slag for 3 to 5 days until is thick. ( This stamps can be used also with printing inks for cloth stamping )
    The height of the stamp including the handle is 3 1/2" ( 90 mm ).
    The size of the actual stamping motive is 2 5/8" ( 67 mm ) x  2 11/16" ( 68 mm ).
    This symbol is the " NKOTIMSEFO MPUA " ( Court attendants hair style ) and is a symbol of loyalty.
    The block is in very good condition.

    The artist is using different stamping block ( Adinkra symbols ) to give his design.
    Adinkra symbolism come from ADINKERA that was a famous king of GYAMAN ( Now Ivory Coast ) that entered into was with Asantahene BONSU-PANYIN. The reason of the war was that Adinkera tried to copy the Golden stool of the Ashantis.
    Adinkra is an ASHANTI ( ASANTE ) ( Ghana , Kumasi , West Africa ) Ceremonial cloth .
    In the present days is still used as a cloth in Ghana but is also used by collectors of African cloths and African artifacts as Wall hanging or sofa covering !
