    Description

The staff was bought at the Fowler Ethnic Art Museum at UCLA.  The museum had a special African exhibition and the museum store was filled with artifacts pertaining to African tribes.  I do not remember which tribal group this staff is from but could be Yoruba, Kenya or a Tanzanian group.
It is 48" tall and 3" wide.  The female figure is on top which I found interesting.  This could be due to the ceremonial purpose.  The female's feet rest on the male.  Both are carved in the round with generous breasts and rear ends.
It was on the 4 " square base when I bought it in the early 1980s.  Free standing.
We have enjoyed  this unique piece and receive many compliments on it. Now is the time to pass it on to someone else.
