ANTIQUE 19TH C. CHINESE EXPORT BLACK LACQUER BOX W/ FIGURAL LANDSCAPE SCENES

Description

A wonderful antique Chinese export black lacquer box decorated with polychrome figural scenes, nineteenth century. Box lid and front feature painted scenes of an official and attendants in natural landscape with diaper patterned borders. Deep red interior and metal lock. Measures approx. 4.75"h x 13.75"l x 7"w. In poor antique condition, being generally well worn with damages, including rubbing and loss to the decoration, buckling, flaking, and cracking to both the internal and external lacquer, surface scratches (mostly to the box's bottom underside), and the lid being slightly loose from the box bottom (still connected but has some tearing/separation) - please see pictures. No marks observed. An enchanting piece of antique Chinese craftsmanship!
