    Description

    Up for bid is a beautiful
    Antique Chinese Gold Gilt Painted Leather Wood Scroll Document Box Case. This box measures 19" long by about 5.75" high by 5.75" wide. Overall, it is still in EXCELLENT condition for its age with no major flaws and average wear (some scrape marks). Both end handles are intact and the main latch is also intact and is engraved with two dragons/sea serpents. The top has a floral design with Asian lettering and a bird with gold gilt accents. The paint is a little faded but you can still see the design. The interior is all leather (suede) with one main compartment and then a somewhat secret compartment under the lid. The exterior is all stitched leather over wood. The stitching is also still in great shape.
    The current owner's family lived in Japan from 1979-84 and this was acquired while they were living in the country. The father favored the Edo Period (early 1800's) but the family has no records of this item's age.
