Miao Drum is a traditional music instrument, which is usually used in festival occasions. Designs on the highly ornamented drums reflect a sea-oriented society, which is watery designed includes bird motifs. The iconic image found on the top of the drums is a classic "starburst", with a various number of spikes radiating out from a center. This image is immediately recognizable to westerners as a representation of a sun or a star.
