THIS LISTING IS FOR A GORGEOUS 19th CENTURY CHINESE LACQUERED WOODEN BOX DECORATED WITH AN INLAID PORCELAIN INSERT.
THIS ATTRACTIVE WOODEN BOX IS DECORATED ON ALL FOUR SIDES WITH RED LACQUER WITH A PAINTED DESIGN ON EACH SIDE PANEL. THE BOX HAS A LARGE PORCELAIN HAND PAINTED PANEL INSERTED INTO THE TOP THAT IS DECORATED WITH A FEMALE FIGURE STANDING ON A BRIDGE AND HOLDING WHAT APPEARS TO BE A PAPER LANTERN. THE INTERIOR OF THE BOX HAS A THICK BLACK LACQUER COATING.
THE BOX IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME MINOR NICKS/CHIPS IN THE LACQUER AT TWO OF THE CORNERS AND ON THE LACQUERED AREA AROUND THE PORCELAIN TOP. THE SIDE PANELS HAVE A PAINTED DESIGN WITH GILT EMBELLISHMENT AND THERE IS WEAR TO THE GILDING COMMENSURATE WITH AGE AND NORMAL USE. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS AS PART OF DESCRIPTION. THE LID OPENS AND CLOSES PROPERLY AND THE INTERIOR IS CLEAN AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
MEASURES 3" HIGH, 8 1/4" LONG AND 5 1/4" WIDE. WEIGHS 1.11 POUNDS.
THIS IS A LARGER BOX THAN IS NORMALLY FOUND WITH THE PORCELAIN INSERT.
