    Description

    Chinese Shard Boxes are made from rescued Ming/Qing Dynasty ceramic pottery that, however  was very old and of great value, however, during the Cultural Revolution 1958-1968 people sought to do away with the excesses of the old guard and wealthy trappings. Around 1970-1980 industrious Chinese people looking for ways to start a business started putting unearthed pottery shards in wood and metal boxes. This beautiful box is 8 inches long, 6 inches wide 2 inched high. It is very good condition for its age and still has most of its silver plate. The lotus is one of the most important flowers in Chinese culture symbolizing ultimate purity of the heart and mind and perfection because it rises unstained and beautiful from the mud.
