  • Condition: Up for auction is an antique Chinese silver repousse flower basket powder compact w mirror. A similar one is on eBay and identified as late Qing Minguo. There is no identifying marks on this box and I really do not know how else to date this box. I polished this box up on the lid and the layer of silver on this box must be very fragile. In polishing the lid there are a few areas where you can see the copper come thru in the photo, which does not show when you look with the native eye. The camera has great magnification compared to the human eye. The underside of the box had to be cleaned up, leaving the center of the box missing its silver covering and the copper showing thru see photo 4). Condition of this box is commiserate with it's age.     Up for auction is an antique Chinese silver repousse flower basket powder compact with mirror.  A similar one is on eBay and identified as late Qing Minguo.  There is no identifying marks on this box and I really do not know how else to date this box.  I have had this box for years.
    The lid lifts off on this box easily.
    The lid design has a very decorative basket with what I believe are flowers.  To me the basket design reminds me of the 1930’s with the ribbon tied over the basket handle.
    I polished this box up on the lid and the layer of silver on this box must be very fragile.  In polishing the lid there are a few areas where you can see the copper come thru in the photo, which does not show when you look with the native eye.
    The underside of the box is plain.  Because there was a lot of paper and scotch tape on the underside, I scrubbed hard to remove them, and you can see some of the copper base.  But this looks a lot better than the sticky tape and paper.
    On the sides of the box is a flowing beautiful flower and flower stem/leaf design.  The top of the case has an interesting design made of varying circlets.
    When you take the lid off the box, there is a beautiful mirror in the lid.  Condition of the mirror is excellent.
    Interior of the base is just plain.  It appears to be a silver like interior, I have not even had to clean it up at all.
    Dimensions of this piece are:  2 ¼ inches round and about 15/16 “ tall + or -
