    Description

Gris-gris is worn by a person who wants to be protected from the evil eye, curses, hatred, diseases or also to receive favors or luck. It usually holds a sheet of paper on which is written magic letters, numbers, names of days, names of the stars and planet, or signs representing the eye. The Tuareg people inhabit a large area, covering almost all the middle and western Sahara and the north-central Sahel. Tuareg are mostly nomads. For over two millennia, they operated the trans-Saharan caravan trade connecting the great cities on the southern edge of the Sahara via five desert trade routes to the northern coast of Africa (Mediterranean).
Over the years I've made several trips to Africa. In almost all cases I buy goods directly from the person who owns them.
In this case, I approached a person (Tuareg) along the road and commented on his gris-gris. He told me it had belonged to his grandfather and asked me if I'd like to have it. I
    immediately
said yes and compensated him very well.
It's in very good condition and has developed a beautiful patina from many years of use.
