Description
Offered is a beautifully designed and intricately detailed set ofMedieval Knights in Armor Chess Set
As with all of our chess sets, this is a complete 32 Piece set.
We don't show all of the pieces in the picture because then
it gets too crowded and you can not see the magnificent detail.
This set does NOT include a board.
and a view of the backs
Now, we already know what you're going to ask,
(Which one is the Queen?)
because you're not the first one to raise the question.
In both of the pictures the pieces are arranged, left to right, by rank.
Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen and then King.
That means that, in all cases, the Queen is the second one from the right.
What's that you say? They don't look like Queens?
Why? Because they are not all feminine and fragile?
Throughout history there have been many strong fighting women.
The most famous that comes to mind is Joan of Arc who repeatedly beat the best the British had to offer
during the 100 Years War leading to the ultimate coronation of the French King Charles VII.
I'm sure you have heard of her - she was in all the papers.
What's that you say? Joan doesn't count because she wasn't really a Queen.
Well, O.K. then. How about our own Great(x20) grand mother Queen Eleanor of France
who personally led 300 soldiers from her home duchy of Aquitaine into the Second Crusades
to provide assistance to her Uncle Raymond, the Prince of Antioch, who was being beseiged by the Saracens..
Our Great (x21) grand mother (Eleanor's mother-in-law) The Empress Maud of Germany who was also the Queen of the Romans,
led an invasion force into England defeating and capturing her cousin King Stephen of Blois in a failed attempt to claim the English crown.
Queen Boudicca of England reportedly had 100,000 men at her command and routinely "suited up" and wielded a sword
right along side them fighting the mighty Roman army to a stand still starting with the batlle of Camulodunum.
Queen Aethelflaed of Mercia England led an invasion of the Welsh kingdom of Brycheiniog
in response to the murder of a Mercian abbot and captured 35 people including its Queen.
Queen Amina of Zazzua (now part of Nigeria) was a Hausa Muslim warrior who conquered many territories
over a 34 year reign greatly expanding the size of her Realm.
Queen Anna Nzinga of Ndongo (now part of Angola) preferred to be called King and dressed in men's clothing
while personally leading her army into battle against Portuguese slave traders.
And many many more.
Sometimes they fought in defense of their own Realm,
and sometimes they personally led armies in the invasion of other Realms.
But what they all had in common was that they refused to rule from the sidelines.
Hope we didn't unsettle your prejudices.

OR
We generously offer a second explanation - we'll let you choose which one suits you best:
Many of our themed chess sets depict events at which there were no strong women present.
For example:
The Battle of the Alamo, England vs France on the High Seas, US vs Germany and US vs Japan in World War II,
and many, many more.
In these cases, the designer has taken the liberty of portraying the "Queen" as the most senior male combatant.
In all fairness, it impossible to tell the gender of the Queens in this set.
Either explanation is equally valid.
But in either case - If a Knight if full armor, bearing a battle ax (as this one is doing), is charging at you,
are you really going to stop and ask their gender?
Made of a cold cast polyresin with 3 1/4" tall kings and then painstakingly hand painted.
With a 1" base this set will fit comfortably on any standard 12" x 12" or larger board.
"Fun" and "Learning"
do not have to be mutually exclusive.
This is such a beautiful set that, even when you are not playing,
it deserves to be left out just to show the world
"Hey, look what I got !!!"
This set is brand new, has never been used and comes in its own Fully Decorated Box
so
If not for yourself, then the perfect gift.
