    Description

    HALF HULL OWNERS MODEL 1905-1926 LONG DECK RACER RUNABOUT MAHOGANY. I have only been able to base my description on basic knowledge of wooden models of this type and the reasoning of age and assembly styles and their relative era of manufacture. The first impulse is to say it is a Chris Craft. It may well be one but likely a very early model 1922 to 1924 + or -. I have tried to identify it from comparison to vintage boat photos and old catalogs. This is an Engine Forward of the Cockpit style design. I believe the era of style is from the early 1900's. I found several Pre Chris Craft boats either from other builders altogether (This would be an EXTREMELY RARE MODEL IF FROM A SMALLER MAKER) or from the company's that merged to create Chris Craft all made LONG DECK model Runabouts, Gentlemen Racers and Gold Cup Racers that resemble this model. I call it an Owners model only because it has more detail than a flat "SOLID HALF HULL" Then again it has spartan details and no apparent Cockpit benches chairs or Deck top design. Maybe a builders display? The Bow angle which has a brass plated metal cutting edge tacked on with tiny nails may say the era is a decade or so later? Then the contour of the stern says 1905 - 1910? The deck rail bead is nailed and glued on. The engine Compartment door on the long deck is brass sheet metal with 13 brass nails securing it to the deck. There is a fairly detailed spoke steering wheel on a nail mounted to the bulkhead. The boards and cross deck "Wind screen of wood" shows some damage. The stern box appears to be like a seat with the continued long deck detail to the end. A very positive age identifier is the greenish OIL SKIN covering on the open space in the uncluttered Cockpit area. This is an early construction material used in a thicker style for flooring in this period. I analyzed all of the curves and angles I could to photos and this may be a Custom Model Boat? Collectively it still appears to be a 1905 1920 era model that depicts an actual boat built in that period. The original Brass claw ring loops are long gone on the back Evidence of their presence is seen in the mounting board. At some point someone has screwed two eye loops into the back board and strung what looks like a length of bailing wire between them. This is the first thing to remove. I believe all of the wood is Mahogany. It has stretched and left a few shrinking cracks but I consider all of the damage minimal. This model deserves a restoration by an expert modeler. I would like to hear from anyone who can Positively ID this craft and any opinions on my description. I am for now sticking with the age as being between 1905 and 1926 as when the original Full Scale was built. That would imply this model is between 94 and 105 years old +or-.I have a boat owner in my Family Tree who prior to the Great depression Owned the Fastest Boat on Greenwood Lake NY and the finest if not first Boat House on the lake. No family historian left to check with. I do see him at the Helm of a beauty like this back in the 1915 120's era.
