John Lennon, Beatles, Yoko Ono, Chuck Berry, The Mike Douglas Show 5 VHS box set.
For 1 week in 1972, music history occurred when Lennon and Ono hosted the Mike Douglas show because according to Ono, they want to reach the older generation with their message.
Guests for the week included a young environmentalist named Ralph Nader, comedian Louis Nye, Yippee activist Jerry Rubin, guitar legend Chuck Berry (who performs two songs with Lennon), Black panther Bobby Seale, and George Carlin. Songs performed include “Luck of the Irish,” “Imagine,” Memphis, Johnny B Goode, Sisters oh sisters, midsummer New York, and It’s so hard.
Douglass famously began the week with his cover of Michelle, thinking he was paying Lennon some respect. Of course, Lennon, as always, had a very witty reaction.
In addition, legend has it that during the duet of Lennon and Berry on Johnny B Goode, Berry was stunned when Yoko chose to stop playing the bongos, pick up a mic, and start screaming her “IYEEEEEE” during the song. Berry’s eyes nearly fell out of his head.
