Description

This ship was crafted in the mid-nineteenth century or earlier.
This is part of Columbus' armada, his flagship the Santa Maria, which sailed from Spain to the New World, the Americas, in 1492. The sails make it look as though it has caught the wind.
Constructed by hand, hand crafted, hand painted and handsome despite its age.
The ship is 3 feet full length (36”), bowsprit to rear. It is 33” tall, including a 2” base. Majestic size.
It has 3 masts, 5 sails of canvas, 3 flags, an anchor, 4 cannon each on the port and starboard sides.
One sail has “1492” writ large and a painting of a mother and infant. The mother and child image is also painted on the stern. Two other sails each have what is known as a Jerusalem cross or a crusader's cross, one in red, one in green.
The intricate rope rigging seems intact with 2 lines that need reattachment. The canvas sails need an emollient. 2 flags need repair. The ship overall is in the fine shape you can see in the photographs. It sits in a groove on the stand.
