OLD African BWA Hawk Plank Butterfly Mask Authentic Burkina Fasa Exquisite

For sale is a large antique Burkina Faso "YEHUTI" BUTTERFLY MASQUERADE MASK (sometimes called a "DUHO" or hawk mask).
Hand-carved from a single plank of wood, decorated with pigment as a stylized representation of a NATURE SPIRIT from the
BWA peoples of Burkina Faso, Black Volta River region.
To harness the life-renewing forces of Do nature spirits, the head of a southern Bwa family commissions the creation of a large number and variety of wooden sculptures and masks to personify specific nature spirits (represented as humans, animals and other abstract beings). One such mask created is the yehoti, used to represent the butterfly and insect which is believed to symbolise growth and fertility during spring months.
Measurements: 60" W X 12 H X 7"D and in very good condition for an old African mask with minor wear as to be expected.

A gorgeous wall piece with a lot of character and nice patina. It carries deep symbolic meaning and would be an asset to any African art collection.
