    Superb Old  Bracelet Trade Currency Gold weight  3.25" w by 2.5" D B. Faso 1" H
The Mbole people from the Southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo traditionally made ankle currency bracelets such as this one to facilitate major trade transactions. Some of the largest jewelry forms known in sub-Saharan Africa are found among the Mbole people. Worn by both men and women, these large, rounded anklets were offered by the husband to his wife-to-be a part of the marriage contract. The anklets come in two sizes, the larger being known as "Ehuke" and the smaller "Diako." These anklets were forged and hammered from a single ingot. One side with cast opening.
