    Description

RARE! TIKAR / BAMUN - PAIR OF
    BRONZE
    FIGURAL REGAL FON DECANTERS
    From N. CAMEROON
    , West Africa
Purchased at an antiques market in Brussels, Belgium – o
wner said they are from Cameroon, and were brought home by his Grandfather who worked there as a missionary from 1930s – 1950s.
Probably made before that period as they were viewed as collectable then.
    Being elaborately d
ecorated with large spiders and frogs indicates Tikar or Bamun origin, and they were probably used as palm wine decanters by royalty, one of the Fon, or Tikar Kings, or by some high ranking tribal dignitary.
Beautiful and intriguing lost wax bronze tribal castings, old and authentic.  Rarely seen.
This fine and heavy decanters are 10" high and together weigh 9 lbs. 5 oz. (4225 gms)
