Antique Texas Department of Criminal Justice “ High Rider” Spurs.
A “High Rider” is a mounted correctional officer who supervises Inmates/Offenders who are working outside the Prison in “The Line” elsewhere known as a “Chain Gang”.
These spurs were manufactured inside the prison facility by offenders, in the Inmate craft shop. They are highly decorated however; due to the limitations of their supplies and equipment, they have a primitive finish. These items were worn by a correctional officer as part of his daily uniform both inside and outside the facility in the late 1970’s / early 1980’s. They were a gift to my father, upon the passing of his friend. Both gentlemen were career officers with 20+ years in the system.
Items do show signs of tarnish and the leather is beginning to deteriorate and has broken in places. Please see all photos for complete details and greatest indication of condition. Thank you for your purchase and find other vintage items in our store.
