    Description

DESCRIPTION:  Vintage Necklace of Beaded Raffia (a palm fibre)
Handmade in the Kuba Kingdom of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa.  The Kuba Kingdom, still Reigning today, is famous for their extremely beautiful carved and woven Tribal Artifacts, Masks, and Statues. This is an interesting necklace that I acquired about 25 years ago, and though it is Vintage, it has never been worn.  The Kuba are famous for weaving with raffia, and this heart shaped woven pendant demonstrates a totally hand woven necklace, which transparent green and opaque white glass seed beads from Czechoslovakia have been sewn onto.  The cord is a finely braided and beaded raffia that is meant to tie closed with an overhand knot.  Beautifully finished, and in very good unworn condition.  Can be worn or hung as a decorative element, or both!
SIZE:  The inverted heart-shape is ~70mm across at the widest, ~74mm from top point to longest- ~ 68mm from top point to bottom indentation of heart shape.  The beaded and braided raffia cord is ~10" each side, just measuring the beaded portion, with an extra 3" braided cord at the ends.
CONDITION:  Very nice Vintage Condition.  Looks unworn and clean, and beads are sewn on very well.
