    Description

    Vintage Primitive Goat Sheep Animal Seed Pod Zebra Like Wood 5 1/2" Double Bell
    Very interesting piece from the estate of a world traveler. Unsure if this is from Africa or Southeast Asia. Because of the materials used, I am leaning towards Africa. Was told it was used for elephants, however size suggests more than likely used for a MUCH smaller animals such a  sheep or goat.
    Searched far and wide for material similar and concluded this is most likely made using two sizes of rather large, dried seed pods. Could not find anything commercially sold out of Asia. What is very intriguing are the lower bell clappers. They appear to be carved of zebra wood - which is sourced from  Africa. It is very distinctive as well as hard with a smooth, polished finish.
    Overall measurement of the "bell" is about 11 1/2" inches from the top of the hemp rope to the base of the clapper. It is about 5 1/2 inches wide at the widest point.
    A nice curiosity for a collection.
